Check whether split ticketing lowers the total
TrainPal’s split-ticketing tool breaks a journey into separate sections while allowing you to travel on the same overall route, where the ticket conditions permit it. This can reveal a lower combined fare than buying one ticket for the complete journey.
Review every ticket in the split combination. Confirm the stations, train times and any instructions about remaining on a particular service. TrainPal says that a small split-ticketing service fee may occasionally apply on the website, typically under £1, and that any applicable fee is displayed before payment. Include it when comparing the final saving.
Use a Railcard if you qualify
TrainPal promotes Railcards as a way to save one-third on many UK rail fares. Available options include the 16-25 Railcard, 26-30 Railcard, Two Together Railcard, Network Railcard and Family & Friends Railcard.
Before booking, check that your Railcard applies to the traveller, route, time and ticket type. Enter or select the correct Railcard during the search so the displayed fare reflects the discount. On the website, it says most bookings have no fee, although a small split-ticketing service fee may occasionally apply. Compare the final price shown on the platform you intend to use, including any service charge and selected extras.
Do not assume that an app offer applies to every journey or customer. Confirm the saving in the basket or payment summary before completing the booking. The displayed price, ticket restrictions and refund conditions should all be acceptable before you proceed.
Entering a code at checkout
If TrainPal offers a promotional code field during checkout, enter a valid code exactly as supplied and select the button used to apply it. Wait for the order summary to refresh and confirm that the expected price adjustment is shown before paying.
If no code field appears, check the booking summary, app offers or any automatically applied promotion instead.
